All parties in Minnesota had a great time on Saturday night, even if the Indiana Fever suffered a heartbreaking loss. With almost 19,000 spectators jam-packed into the arena, the Lynx retired the jersey of WNBA star Maya Moore.
The star of Fever, Kelsey Mitchell, gave a speech about the atmosphere in Target Center after the team lost 90–80. Even in away stadiums, she thinks rookie Caitlin Clark has had an effect on the crowds. Mitchell tipped her compliments to the rookie for being one of the greatest stars in the WNBA and noted that Clark has been positioning the Fever to play in front of full arenas. “All of our girls are C-squared,” Mitchell remarked.
“I believe Caitlin in particular is well-known… She will, in my opinion, keep positioning us to win over everyone on the planet.
” With the first overall pick in the 2024 draft, Clark and the Fever have amassed impressive attendance figures as many WNBA fans are eager to experience the excitement. Indiana was reportedly among the top teams in the league for road attendance during the first half of the season, just after the league took a break for the Summer Olympics.
The Fever averaged 15,306 spectators at away venues, up more than 50% over games that did not include Indiana and Caitlin Clark in the same venue, according to Sports Business Journal. Due to the demand for additional seats across the league, three of the Fever’s games in the first half of the season also had to be shifted to adjacent NBA or NHL venues. In the league standings, Indiana is currently ranked as the seventh seed. They have won six of their past ten games, giving them a 13–16 record.
