Jonah Williams, a five-star safety prospect from Galveston (Texas) Ball, made his official commitment to the University of Texas on Saturday night. Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian was not aware of the news until later. Although he and the Texas staff were undoubtedly confident, there were rumors circulating behind the scenes, and Williams didn’t want to break the good news until he made his commitment publicly known.
The No. 7 overall pick in the class of 2025, Williams, declined almost every offer in America to enroll at Texas. The Longhorns, LSU, Texas A&M, Oregon, and USC were among the finalists. As the end approached, he was thinking about all five programs. He wasn’t sure what he wanted to do in particular. Ultimately, he desired to play for Blake Gideon, the safeties coach, and Sarkisian in the Lone Star State.
“Texas,” Williams responded when asked where he was going in an early-morning interview with 247Sports on Saturday. “It was just the coaching staff, the environment, and the post-football life.” There was simply too much potential there to pass up. In case
