C.J. Uzomah, a former tight end at Auburn, was released by the Philadelphia Eagles, the NFL franchise announced on Wednesday.
With one game remaining on his three-year, $24 million deal and a failed physical designation, Uzomah was released by the New York Jets on March 13. On April 11, Uzomah agreed to a one-year contract with the Eagles.
Uzomah played 30 offensive snaps and had one reception for 3 yards in Philadelphia’s two preseason games.
Six tight ends are still available for the Eagles in their preseason roster. The starter, Dallas Goedert, has not participated in any preseason games. In the two preseason games, tight ends Kevin Foelsch (52 snaps) and E.J. Jenkins (71) saw more offensive snaps than Uzomah.
After suffering a medial collateral ligament injury during a 13-8 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on December 3, Uzomah concluded the 2023 season on injured reserve. He was not present for the season’s last five games.
In 12 games, including eight starts, Uzomah had eight receptions for 58 yards and one score in 2023. During that time, he played in 239 offensive snaps and 148 special teams plays.
