Following their gold-medal duel at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Victor Wembanyama and Kevin Durant exchanged words of respect and sometimes brutal honesty.
Wembanyama kept Team USA at bay while France managed to hold on for a 98-87 triumph. The NBA Rookie of the Year winner spoke with future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant after the game, revealing that Durant was his favorite player growing up.
Wembanyama discussed what he told Durant after the gold-medal clash in an interview with M6 Info (h/t ClutchPoints).
Wembanyama declared, “This is my personal favorite from my childhood.” “He turned became my favorite player… I expressed my desire to learn from him and maybe just take up a couple of his trade secrets.”
Wembanyama grew up watching some of the finest players in the NBA right now, like as Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Durant.
Add to Wembanyama’s fantastic first year in the NBA and at the Olympic level is the fact that he played against his childhood idol in a highly publicized game.
Wembanyama is just eighteen years old, but judging from his skill set and performance in his NBA debut, it’s safe to say that plenty of players in the future will look forward to the rising star of the San Antonio Spurs.
