Mario Cristobal, the head coach of Miami football, is in his third season in charge and wants to keep laying a solid foundation for his alma institution. Four-star safety Bryce Fitzgerald decided to play for the Hurricanes on Saturday night, which strengthened the team’s recruiting class of 2025, according to On3.com’s Hayes Fawcett via X, formerly Twitter.
Fitzgerald is the newest member of Cristobal and the Hurricanes’ recruiting class for 2020–21, as they work to establish a team that consistently contends for ACC championships and College Football Playoff spots. Gaining a spot in the Playoffs should be simpler as a new 12-team era gets underway. In theory, however. With Underwood joining the team and quarterback Cam Ward being selected through the transfer portal, the Hurricanes may be involved in multiple championship competitions at the same time this year.

According to On3.com, the Hurricanes are now ranked 10th nationwide in the Class of 2025. With Underwood as the fifteenth four-star recruit, the 22-man class is quite deep. As of yet, there aren’t any five stars, but there is yet time. It should be noted that the present commitment of players—not including any prospective additions through transfer portals—may result in space constraints.
Fitzgerald and fellow four-star recruit Hylton Stubbs might establish a long-term partnership at safety. The star from Miami chose to remain in the city and play for the Hurricanes. He is currently a student at Christopher Columbus High School in his hometown. He passed over LSU and other in-state universities like Florida and Florida State in favor of Cristobal’s program.
Out of the fifteen players, eight are four-stars, three of them are safeties—Underwood, Stubbs, and Miami native Amari Wallace. Seven offensive four-stars are led by quarterback Luke Nickel, one of whom is SJ Alofaituli, an interior offensive lineman from nationally renowned Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. The depth of the new class suggests that they may be the Hurricanes’ next big wave to influence collegiate football in general.
