On Monday, the “On3 2024 Preseason True Freshman All-American Team” was announced, featuring four-star running back Jordan Lyle and five-star defensive tackle Justin Scott. Only Lyle and Scott, two Miami football players, were selected by On3 as 2024 Preseason True Freshmen All-Americans.
The 2024 Miami class is ranked #1 in the ACC and fifth nationwide by On3, largely due to Lyle and Scott. According to the On3 Recruiting Industry Rankings, Scott is the top player in Illinois for the 2024 class, the 19th-ranked signee, and the fourth defensive lineman. Lyle was the 17th signee in Florida in the On3 RIR, the sixth RB, and the 114th overall.
After Scott had previously committed to Ohio State, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power applauded Miami for receiving a huge clip from him. Scott received an exceptional athletic rating from Power, citing his “amazing combination of movement, skills, and size.” He has created a lot of great buzz throughout the fall camp and is truly capable of lifting more than 300 pounds.”
Power noted that Lyle’s adjustment to Miami’s collegiate ranks has gone well. Lyle is praised for his “change of direction, outstanding vision, elite contact balance and just ability to run between the tackles.” Lyle might be Miami’s number two back early on, according to Power.
Damien Martinez, an Oregon State transfer, will face competition from Lyle in the form of redshirt sophomore Ajay Allen and sophomore Mark Fletcher for carries. Fletcher is making a comeback from a lisfranc injury he sustained during the previous season’s Pinstripe Bowl defeat to Rutgers. Miami might start the season by gradually progressing Fletcher.
Miami added defensive tackle transfers Marley Cook, C.J. Clark, and Simeon Barrow. For snaps at DT behind Barrow, Clark, and Cook, Scott will face competition from Anthony Campbell, Josh Horton, and Amhad Moten. Among the DTs on the Miami 2024 roster, Scott has the highest ranking by a wide margin.
Rueben Bain, an offensive lineman, and Francis Mauigoa, an offensive lineman, were selected as 2023 Freshman All-Americans. The 2023 ACC Rookie Defensive Player of the Year award went to Bain as well. Miami should have a great 2024 season if Lyle and Scott play up to their reputation as 2023 preseason All-Americans.
