Mike Harley, a former Miami Hurricanes wide receiver, was signed by the Dolphins on Tuesday. The Dolphins have been without five wide outs due to injury. In order to create space on the 90-man roster, guard Chasen Hines was dismissed. Coach Mike McDaniel stated on Wednesday that Jaylen Waddle and Braxton Berrios are still out of the lineup due to “minor” injuries. Despite not practicing at training camp, Odell Beckham Jr. is still listed as physically unable to perform, even though he looks to be running fine.
Due to an undisclosed injury, Erik Ezukanma will be out for an indefinite amount of time. Additionally, Anthony Schwartz did not show up for practice on Wednesday. Harley, who had a Dolphins audition on Wednesday morning, leads UM in receptions all-time with 182. Harley, 26, spent that season on the Cleveland Browns practice squad after signing with the organization as an undrafted rookie in May 2022.
He also trained camped with Cleveland in 2023 and briefly with the UFL’s DC Defenders in 2018. After graduating from Fort Lauderdale St.
Thomas Aquinas, Harley went on to conclude his career at UM with 15 touchdowns and 2158 receiving yards. Deon Cain, a former Clemson standout with nine career receptions for 124 yards, was also worked out by the Dolphins. The 6-2 Cain caught 16 receptions for the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL last season, good for 182 yards and three touchdowns.
Veteran 5-9 receiver Damiere Byrd, who was released by Washington this week, was also worked out by Miami. In his career, he has caught 130 passes for 1689 yards and seven touchdowns, although he only played in one game last year—for Atlanta. Among the four receivers that tried out on Wednesday, the Dolphins did not select any receiver who is well-known across the country.
Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry are still well-known players, but neither was successful for the squad. A slew of injuries at the position meant Miami needed assistance. This week, Waddle and Berrios haven’t worked out.
