Following a rough preseason debut, Saints quarterback Derek Carr reveals why he “feels bad for fans.”
During Saturday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr and the rest of the starting offense had a rough start to the preseason.
Carr started and only managed to lead the road team’s attack for two lackluster drives. In the first quarter, second-year reserve quarterback Jake Haener took his spot.
The 10-year veteran saw play on the game’s first two drives and finished 2-of-6 for 12 yards. One of Carr’s passes was nearly intercepted after it was deflected close to the line of scrimmage.
“It’s frustrating, because you’re getting ready for a game but you’re not game-planning; I didn’t even know who was gonna be out there jersey number-wise, but the execution, getting through the play calls — of course you want to score and win — but the communication, getting in and out of the huddle, we wanted to execute, and that was good for the first time out.” Carr stated in a Fox 8 mid-game interview.
Carr pointed out that the fans were not given a complete preview of the offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak’s scheme.
Carr stated, “You don’t get to see any of it today.” “Practice has only consisted of friends and family, and it’s difficult to play without showing anything during a preseason game.” I’m sorry for our supporters, but when we play in the regular season, it will be thrilling.”

The game’s high point came from Carr’s 10-yard pass completion for first down to Chris Olave.
With Haener and youngster Spencer Rattler vying for Carr’s backup spot throughout the remainder of the preseason, it’s unclear how much playing time Carr will receive.
