Alvin Kamara provided a clear explanation of his practice with the New Orleans Saints in spite of his lack of a new contract. In addition to avoiding penalties, he wishes to be faithful to his teammates and coaches who aren’t engaged in his wage negotiations.

With over 10,000 yards and 77 touchdowns in seven NFL seasons, Kamara has been an outstanding player. However, in June, he skipped a mandatory practice to express his dissatisfaction with the Saints’ management. With two years remaining on his deal, Kamara’s compensation in 2025 is not guaranteed, so if his play or health deteriorate this season, the Saints may choose to let him loose in order to save money.
Kamara clarified that he is only requesting a longer commitment—not more money. He stated that he would rather to retire and unwind in Africa, where his mother is from, than continue playing in the NFL, and he intended to finish his career with the Saints.
NFL teams have been hesitant to offer large contracts to running backs in recent years, particularly to those who are in their 30s.
General Manager Mickey Loomis stated on Tuesday that he was pleased Kamara arrived on schedule and that the running back, who will turn 29 in a few days, is in excellent condition.

While Loomis refrained from discussing individual contract negotiations, he did note that they must take the fluctuations in the market into account for various roles. He stated that the Saints must wisely manage compensation throughout the club, particularly following a three-year postseason drought.
