Austin Moore, a linebacker for Kansas State, represented the Wildcats at Big 12 Media Days on Tuesday. Speaking about culture and homegrown players succeeding in Manhattan, Moore embodied the qualities Kansas State football is known for: a team of industrious, blue-collar players who work hard and earn conference honors. A walk-on from Louisburg, Moore chose to come back to Manhattan for his last season. However, with the announcement on Wednesday, 2024 won’t be the last time Moore plays for Kansas State.
Autin’s brother Ashton Moore tweeted this statement on Wednesday afternoon after committing to Kansas State:
“I’m thrilled to declare that Kansas State University is my new home! I want to express my gratitude to my teammates, coaches, family, and everyone else who has helped me along the journey—especially the people of Louisburg. Cats, go!”
Moore accepted his first offer from Kansas State in June following a productive camp there. After receiving the offer, Moore jumped to the front of the queue for the colleges he was interested in, speaking with GoPowercat shortly after.
Moore stated, “It means a lot to me,” on the qualities that the scholarship offers. “This has been a goal of mine for a long time and to be here now and see that the hard work payed off is a great feeling,” Moore stated in June.
It was just a matter of time until Moore completed his recruitment and selected the Wildcats, turning down offers from Penn and Illinois State in favor of the Wildcats. According to Ashton, Austin, his older brother, has been recruiting more students to K-State than any other institution. Ashton said to GoPowercat that his desire of seeing his younger brother go through the same curriculum that has helped shape him will now come true.
“Throughout the process, Austin has been incredibly helpful and open to all universities, but it’s clear that he has some bias for K-State. I feel like I have deeper ties to the coaching staff as a whole there than I do anywhere else right now,” he remarked.
Although Ashton is not currently ranked by 247Sports, which means he is not included in the top 15 players in the state, this will undoubtedly change throughout the upcoming evaluation period.
Moore is a 6-foot-two, 200-pound man who excels at Louisburg High School. In 2023, the junior quarterback led the Wildcats to a 9-1 record and a conference championship, earning him the title of Frontier League First Team on both the offensive and defensive sides. Along with rushing for over 1,000 yards (averaging over 7 YPC) and 18 offensive touchdowns, Moore also had 125 tackles, eight of which were for loss, four forced fumbles, and two sacks. During that season, he was also named to the 4A First Team All-State team and received a nomination as a finalist for the Bobby Bell Award, which is given to the top offensive lineman/defensive lineman or linebacker in Classes 1-4 in the Kansas City metro area each year.
