The Cache County Sheriff’s Office reported that Andre Seldon Jr., a former Michigan football player and excellent student at Belleville High School, perished at the age of 22 after plunging from a rock into the lake near Porcupine Dam.
When Seldon failed to emerge from his dive on Saturday at 2:20 p.m., authorities were alerted to the issue. At 9:05 p.m., rescue personnel and divers arrived on the scene and removed his body. The sheriff’s office said via ClickonDetroit.com, “Our initial investigation leads us to believe this is a tragic accident, as multiple witnesses recount the same information.”

Seldon enrolled in January 2020 after pledging his commitment to the University of Michigan in 2018. He was a four-star recruit to the cornerback position. He transferred to New Mexico State after two seasons at Michigan, where he finished with 98 tackles and two interceptions in two seasons. He has most recently transferred to Utah State, where he was scheduled to begin classes in the autumn.
Utah State’s defensive coordinator and acting head coach, Nate Dreiling, conveyed his sadness. He remarked, “Andre was an amazing person and teammate. I can tell you this because I had a previous experience with him at New Mexico State. “We are praying for Andre’s family and sending our condolences as we share their deep loss.”
“We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who loved Andre,” said Diana Sabau, the athletic director at Utah State.
The sudden death of Andre Seldon Jr. leaves his friends, family, and the football community in mourning. Everyone who knew him will never forget the contributions he made, both on and off the field.
