The Miami Hurricanes scored a major victory on Saturday, three days after missing out on a cornerback target. Four-star prospect Jaboree Antoine, a cornerback from Louisiana, committed nonbindingly to UM, choosing it over LSU and FSU.
Antoine is ranked No. 71 overall and No. 8 among cornerbacks in this class by 247 Sports. He is ranked No. 87 prospect and No. 9 cornerback by On.3. About 72 hours have passed since five-star cornerback DJ Pickett chose LSU over Oregon and UM. Before telling UM on Friday that he would be joining the Hurricanes, Antoine, a student at Westlake High in Iberia, Louisiana, de-committed from LSU in June but was thought to have recommitted to the Tigers. Antoine stated on social media and on On.3’s announcement show on Saturday that “really it came down to a late decision.”
“I just had a lot of questions that needed to be answered. UM was really unmatched.” “They’re getting a leader on and off the field,” he added of the Canes. We are going to try to win a national title, and you are receiving a corner that can take away one half of the field. Antoine noted that “everyone on the [UM] staff was excited” when he announced his commitment.
Antoine has visited UM twice, the most recent visit occurring on May 31. “I’m prepared to go outside at this moment.” Due to a collarbone injury, Antoine only made five appearances in the previous season. He had 32 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and five interceptions in 2022. In 2022, he also saw action at quarterback, finishing 105 of 186 throw attempts with 1,650 yards and 12 touchdowns. Antoine, a 6-1,
180-pound prospect, is UM’s 2025 cornerback commitment, along with three-star Timothy Merritt and four-star prospect Chris Ewald Jr. Another UM commit, Amari Wallace is a four-star prospect who can play safety or cornerback. The Canes are still in the running for a number of other highly regarded defensive backs, though: ▪ Bryce Fitzgerald, a four-star safety for Miami Columbus,
is anticipated to make an announcement in mid-August. FSU and UF are also fierce rivals. ▪ Cornerback Ben Hanks Jr. of Booker T. Washington, who is ranked No. 81 overall and No. 10 among cornerbacks. He’s thinking of Louisville, UF, FSU, UM, and UF. UF is now the front-runner according to On3.com. Three-star recruit Aiden Anding, a Louisiana native, is ranked No. 38 among corners by 247 Sports. Included in the mix are Texas, TCU, LSU, and Arkansas. Vernell Brown III, a four-star 2025 receiver out of Orlando (Fla.) Jones, is one of UM’s offensive targets. He is anticipated to select between UM, FSU, UF, and Ohio State on Sunday. Now, the Canes have committed 19 players for the Class of 2025, 13 of whom have come from four-star prospects since June 1. UM’s class is ranked eighth in the nation by 247 Sports.
