In front of their home crowd, the Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in Game 5 of the NBA Finals to win their 18th NBA title in franchise history. Even though Jayson Tatum was happy with his victory at TD Garden, he acknowledged that he would have rather been victorious in Dallas.
In a joint interview with NBA 2K and ThreeFourTwo Productions, Tatum stated, “To be honest, I would have preferred to win on the road.” “Just because I have firsthand experience with what it’s like to win a championship on my court.” I desired to have that returned. I was motivated to win in Dallas after witnessing the terrible outcome of the Warriors’ victory on our court.
In 2022, after Steph Curry and company overcame Boston in Game 6 of the Finals at TD Garden, the Golden State Warriors defeated the Celtics. Tatum and the other members of the Celtics team observed the Larry O’Brien Trophy being raised and the visiting team celebrating with their families.
Tatum added that winning a championship “felt like a breath of fresh air” and that a weight was lifted off him, despite the fact that the Celtics did not sweep Dallas.
“The thing that I find most fulfilling about winning is that there are so many things that people can argue about when they turn on the TV in this day and age of social media,” Tatum remarked. Is he the top athlete? Is he in the top five, what? The fact that I am a champion is beyond dispute. They will never be able to take that away from me.
“It would keep me up at night, so I sleep so much better,” he continued. “To be honest, I don’t give a damn about what they say anymore because I accomplished what they said I couldn’t and they can’t take that away.”
The Celtics are already the favorites to win the 2024–25 NBA title because they will have a large portion of the same group returning for the next year.
