Quinn Hambrite, the head football coach at Charles Henderson High, was in need of a new offensive coordinator when DeAndre Austin was appointed head coach of Tuskegee’s Booker T. Washington. Reaching back into the archives for a former athlete from his days as an assistant at Prattville, he located his guy.

By adding Kamryn Pettway to the staff, Hambrite also get access to a coach who served as Auburn’s first-team All-SEC running back and developed his football acumen.

“I’ve known him since I was on the Prattville coaching staff during his senior year of high school,” Hambrite remarked. “Kam and I have been in a relationship for ever. Following the departure of my offensive coordinator at Booker T. Washington, he got in touch and expressed interest. It made perfect sense. All he needed to do was do well at the interview.

Pettway was Hambrite’s guy when he made it through his audition.

After ranking 12th in the country in running as a redshirt sophomore for Gus Malzahn’s Tigers in 2016, Pettway was named an All-SEC selection. With seven touchdowns, he gained 1,224 yards and 5.86 yards per carry on 209 attempts. He was the first Auburn player to rush for 150 yards in back-to-back games since Bo Jackson.
