On the football field, Adrian Martinez is once again making huge plays. Not in Nebraska. Not at the University of Kansas. not in the National Football League. Right now, he is the starting quarterback for the United Football League’s Birmingham Stallions, and it seems like a good fit for him.
This spring, Martinez has become an incredible star. He was so good that the UFL named him MVP. With his dual-threat quarterback abilities, he led the Stallions to the UFL championship game, which will take place in St.
Louis on Sunday at 4 p.m. He was awarded the honor. Martinez has used his powerful arm and his lightning-fast feet to put together an incredible highlight reel, just like he did during his college years. Having run for 528 yards and three touchdowns, he led the league in rushing. In terms of passing, he finished third with 1,749 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was able to set UFL records when he was performing at his peak.
Martinez now has four touchdown passes in a single game, which is the record. That occurred during a game against Memphis in early May. In two games this spring, he passed for more than 300 yards, and in another game against Houston, he ran for 138 yards.
Martinez only spent a short while at K-State, but during that time he was instrumental in the Wildcats’ 2022 Big 12 title win. He was a graduate transfer when he came to Manhattan and made 10 appearances for Chris Klieman. In his lone season at K-State, he ran for 638 yards and 10 touchdowns, and completed his passer stats with 1,261 yards and six touchdowns. His most memorable performance came in a road game against Oklahoma, where he ran for four touchdowns and 148 yards to lead the Wildcats to an exciting win. His season was cut short by injuries, as he only managed to play ten games before Will Howard assumed the starting quarterback position as the team advanced to the Sugar Bowl.
Prior to that, he played for the Nebraska Cornhuskers for four successful seasons. Martinez signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions after failing to be selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, and he played a significant amount of the preseason with them before being left off the final roster. Later on, he made a comeback in the UFL, where he enjoyed a fantastic season.
Maybe an MVP award and a successful season with the Stallions will get him another look from an NFL team.
