The Big 12 Preseason Football Team and Individual Honors have been announced in addition to the Big 12 Media Preseason Poll. Preseason polls gave Kansas State the credit they deserved, but no player made the team or was predicted to win any individual awards.
It’s likely that Avery Johnson and DJ Giddens were the two players who were passed over the most. Granted, Johnson may not have received the honor because of his lack of playing experience; rather, the buzz about him and his potential for K-State in the upcoming season is considerable.
But this past season, Giddens proved a lot of things, including being a key component of the Wildcat offense. Giddens amassed 1,226 yards of total ground gain, 10 touchdowns, 323 receiving yards, and three receiving scores in
Giddens, the largest returning player on the K-State offense, will be a part of a deadly running game with Dylan Edwards, a transfer from Colorado, and of course Johnson. Ollie Gordon II and Tahj Brooks are also excellent running backs.
One could have argued that Marques Sigle, a safety, should have been included on the roster as well. Sigle, one of the most seasoned players, will be the center of attention for Kansas State’s defense. In 2023, Sigle recorded 63 total tackles, 9 passes defensed, and 1 interception.
It’s important to remember that these are only preseason projections and that nobody can predict how the All-Big 12 team will look or who will win the individual awards, but it’s absurd that not a single Kansas State player was included.
