The Golden State Warriors and Klay Thompson have finally parted ways after what seemed like an eternity, as the former was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. However, Kenyon Martin, a former NBA player, felt that Golden State had treated the Splash Brother disrespectfully.
Over the past ten years, Thompson—one of the best shooters in the NBA—has been a key member of the Warriors dynasty. From 2015 to 2022, Thompson, All-Star guard Stephen Curry, and forward Draymond Green helped the Dubs win four titles. Curry and Thompson’s backcourt rewrote the history books, setting new records for the most three-pointers made in a season combined.
But there were indications during the previous season that Thompson’s tenure with the Warriors was coming to an end. He was benched as the team concentrated on developing younger players, and he is now 34 years old. For the first time since his third NBA season, his scoring average fell below 20 points per game.
Now a member of the Mavericks, Thompson spent 13 seasons with Golden State. The four-time champion and five-time All-Star is no longer the league’s best perimeter threat, but he is still one of the best scorers when healthy. In exchange, the Mavs will receive an experienced player who can lead from the bench and produce instant offense. Even though he has another chapter of his career ahead of him, his legacy as one of the greatest Warriors of all time is assured.

Following Thompson’s trade to Dallas, a number of celebrities have voiced their opinions. Former NBA player Kenyon Martin was one of those who voiced his opinions, as seen in an interview by Gilbert Arenas that ClutchPoints on X posted.
In a recent trade involving the Warriors, Mavericks, and Charlotte Hornets, Thompson went to Dallas and Golden State received a couple of second-round picks. Josh Green, a former Mavs wing, was sent to Charlotte in the interim.
Martin came to the conclusion that the Dubs were disrespectful of the All-Star shooter as a result of the return GSW received and their refusal to offer Thompson a larger contract. Either way, Luka Doncic and company will be giving the Splash Brother a fresh chance to shine in Dallas.
