SAD LONGHORNS NEWS: TEXAS LONGHORNS Confirm Top Sensational High Profile Superstar Just Agree To Join………

On June 20, Inside Texas’ Joe Cook confirmed that former Texas football sophomore running back Savion Red had transferred to the Nevada Wolfpack. Red moves to Nevada this offseason, where he joins new head coach Jeff Choate along with a number of former Texas players.

Former Texas football player Savion Red has committed to Nevada, and early in the offseason, Jeff Choate, a former linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator, left Austin to take a head coaching position at Nevada.

Along with former walk-on running back Ky Woods and senior safety Kitan Crawford, Red is another former Longhorn who connected with Choate at Nevada this offseason through the transfer portal. There are still two years left on his eligibility.

Red signed up for the transfer portal a few months ago after Texas’ spring football season.

In order to capitalize on his versatility and provide more depth to the running back room coming into the 2023 season, Red switched from wide receiver to running back during his first season at Texas.

Over the previous two seasons, the third-year running back from the DFW Metroplex participated in 21 games for the Longhorns. For the last two years, Red has helped the Longhorns both offensively and on special teams.

Red returned a few kicks on special teams last season, and he also helped out with the coverage and kick return units as a blocker.

On 30 carries in 2023, Red totaled 131 rushing yards and one touchdown. Throughout the previous season, he was frequently used as the ball carrier in “Redcat formation” short-yardage and goal line situations, where he collected multiple first downs.

During his nine games as a true freshman in 2022, Red saw the majority of the action late in the game. In 2022, he had six receptions for 34 receiving yards and zero touchdowns.

In the 2022 class, Red was a late-cycle flip for the Longhorns. The Longhorns extended an offer to the three-star recruit from Grand Prairie (TX) High School in DFW a few weeks prior to his signing day late in the 2022 cycle, after he had previously committed to the SMU Mustangs.
