Though there are many different perspectives regarding Boston’s return on the Linus Ullmark trade, former goalie Andrew Raycroft of NESN thinks his former team made the right decision.
In exchange for Ullmark, the Ottawa Senators sent the Bruins a first-round draft selection this year, goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, and forward Mark Kastelic.
On Tuesday’s episode of “The Gresh & Fauria Show” on WEEI, Raycroft declared, “It’s a win for me because you had to trade Linus Ullmark.” “Having him return just wasn’t going to work, and the harder it is, the longer the deal drags on, the fewer places left for Linus to go.”
Raycroft does think the Bruins are trying to make more moves in the offseason, even though he didn’t specifically discuss what Boston received in return.

For the upcoming 2024–25 season, Ullmark will receive a salary of $4.5 million with a $5 million cap hit. Boston gained cap space as a result of the trade because Korpisalo’s $5 million salary was reduced by the Senators’ agreement to take 25% of it.
With NHL free agency starting on Monday, the Bruins could make a major move with their extra cash.

Raycroft remarked, “I think this is a good start.” Here, there’s still a long way to go. Over the next week, they will have $24 million in cap space to spend on players, and there are a lot of guys available. I like the way things are going because it allows free agency to begin and removes the biggest doubt from the Bruins’ situation, allowing them to focus on making calls, contacting agents, and signing players.
On Friday, June 28 at 7 p.m. ET, the Bruins acquired the No. 25 pick in the first round of the NHL Draft, which they can use.
