Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian has a talent for bringing in elite quarterbacks. Over the past five years, Sarkisian has been involved in the recruitment of a number of noteworthy quarterbacks, including Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning.
With four-star recruit Dia Bell, who declared his commitment to Texas on X, he’s done it once more.
Bell, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is the class’s second-ranked quarterback and 10th overall pick. He has 37 other recruitment offers but is committed to Texas as he begins his junior year of high school.
Bell’s pocket-passing resume began even before he entered high school; in four varsity games as an eighth grader, he completed 12 pass attempts and scored two touchdowns on the ground. During his rookie season, he played in nine games and completed 13 of 21 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns. He also gained 30 yards and one touchdown on the ground.
His reputation in the recruiting world increased following his sophomore year at American Heritage High School. Bell finished the season with 1,929 yards of passing touchdowns, four interceptions, and 20 passing touchdowns.
Bell’s name became memorable for reasons other than his recruitment profile. Raja Bell, a former NBA shooting guard and two-time member of the All-Defensive Team, is his father. Bell, who spent 12 seasons playing basketball for numerous teams, instilled his athletic ability in his son, who is currently a high school player and finished his freshman year averaging 20.7 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.6 rebounds.
As the eighth gunslinger to join Sarkisian’s list of accomplished quarterback recruits, Bell is the most recent addition to the list, which began with Bryce Young in 2020 while Sarkisian was the Alabama head coach. Additionally, Jalen Milroe, Ewers, Maalik Murphy, Manning, Trey Owens, and KJ Lacey were recruited by Sarkisian.
When evaluating the longevity and caliber of an athletic program, finding gifted young players is crucial. Texas has one of the best quarterback rooms in the nation going into the 2024 season thanks to Bell’s commitment.
Bell wrote on X, “Thank you to everyone who offered me a chance to pursue my dreams at your school,” and included a photo of himself with white people from Texas. “I am appreciative of each and every one of you and the connections we made. These pictures were taken exactly two years ago. The plan was always in place!
