The Minnesota Twins were forced to cancel their game and postpone it due to inclement weather for the second time in four days.
Fortunately, Tuesday’s delay against the Tampa Bay Rays did not necessitate playing a doubleheader, unlike Saturday. A few days prior, a Sunday doubleheader that Minnesota swept was created when the Twins and A’s game was postponed due to inclement weather.
Tuesday night was a little less enjoyable.
As a storm swept through the Minneapolis area, the tarp came out just four pitches after Pablo Lopez surrendered a solo home run that broke a tie.
Most recent rain delay information for Twins vs. Rays (June 18, 2024)
With a tornado watch in effect for the majority of the state, the rain delay appeared possible at first, but it appeared that the worst had been avoided. However, when the game was paused in the fifth inning, that turned out not to be the case.
For the Twins, it was just a terrible time.
Randy Arozarena hit a three-run home run off Pablo Lopez in the first inning, and he gave up another run a few innings later, but Minnesota rallied. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Willi Castro hit a triple to clear the bases. A batter later, on a base hit by Trevor Larnach, he scored to tie the game and regain some momentum.
Four pitches later, the game was postponed. In the very next inning, Lopez gave up another home run, this one a solo effort by Brandon Lowe.
In Minnesota this year, there has been something of a trend toward weather delays. The Twins have already played two doubleheaders this year due to inclement weather, and they still need to make up a game against the Guardians that was postponed until August.
