Regarding one of its top recruiting targets, Texas football is receiving some confusing news. According to On3, five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench no longer views the Longhorns as his top university. Following a visit to Baton Rouge and an LSU football game, Ffrench is maintaining an open mind.
According to Sports Illustrated, Ffrench declared, “I don’t have a leader.” “LSU made it competitive and changed it. But everyone is currently in those one, two, and three schools. It’s currently wide open.
Wide receiver Ffrench is a member of the recruiting class of 2025. He is a Jacksonville, Florida, native who stands out. According to On3, he caught 62 passes for 1,247 yards in the 2023 season. In addition, he scored 14 receiving touchdowns. His receiving yardage totaled 671 in his second season.
Ffrench is weighing Florida State, Texas, LSU, Miami, and Tennessee. On August 30, the receiver is expected to disclose his college preference, according to Sports Illustrated. It’s obvious that the Longhorns are hoping to retain the top recruit.
Football fans in Texas don’t have to give up. The Longhorns are still in the running for the receiver’s services, even though they aren’t the wideout’s first choice. From June 21–23, Ffrench is expected to visit the Texas football program. Among the top receivers available in the 2025 class is Ffrench. According to the on3 industry ranking, he is the 23rd-ranked player in the country.
The Longhorns’ 2024 season is going to be crucial. Texas football will play its inaugural season in the SEC. After several years as a member of the Big 12, the school left along with Oklahoma. Texas just lost to Washington in a national semifinal game after making an appearance in the College Football Playoffs the previous season. In their last season as a member, the Longhorns also took home the Big 12 conference title. Texas will be rooting for quarterbacks Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning to lead them back to the CFP.
It won’t be simple. Without a doubt, the SEC is the toughest conference in college football. For the past few years, Alabama and Georgia have dominated the league, winning both the conference and CFP titles. But after the previous season, legendary coach Nick Saban left Alabama, and things are starting to change. Some of the best players in the nation are still being recruited by Texas, and contrary to popular belief, switching from the Big 12 to the SEC shouldn’t be too tough.
