Breaking: Following Caleb Williams’ rough OTAs, the Chicago Bears sign an All-Pro offensive weapon.
Give the Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles credit; he’s going above and beyond to ensure the quarterback he selected with the first overall pick in the draft has a successful rookie season. After OTAs in June, the Bears added another offensive weapon.
This spring, Caleb Williams is having trouble.
Williams reportedly displayed an impressive arm during OTAs in May and June, according to several reports. He has begun to improve his consistency during the 7-on-7 practice. But Williams hasn’t performed well in the pre-snap offense, and he’s even having trouble snapping the ball during mandatory minicamp. Additionally, he has had difficulty when Williams is navigating the pass rush in 11-on-11 situations.
This spring, the Bears acquired wide receiver Keenan Allen, a six-time Pro Bowler, through a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers. D’Andre Swift, a running back recently signed by the Philadelphia Eagles, is coming off a Pro Bowl season. Rome Odunze was also selected by the Bears with the ninth overall pick.
An All-Pro tight end was signed by the Chicago Bears.

Marcedes Lewis will return to the Bears for the 2024 season, according to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports. He spent the 2023 season as a player for the Bears:
For those of you who love the Chicago Bears, here’s a little Sunday gossip: @MarcedesLewis89 has informed me that he plans to re-sign for the team in Chicago tomorrow after meeting with them. If nothing unexpected happens, Lewis will be entering his 19th season as a backup quarterback. 19, unbelievable #bears

In Chicago, Lewis had a respectable season. He participated in every game (17 total), starting four of them. Lewis, who is 39 years old, performed exceptionally well when used primarily as a blocking tight end. Last season, Lewis received a 71.1 grade, according to Pro Football Focus. Additionally, he hauled in four passes for 29 yards and a touchdown.
Lewis was chosen by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft. Prior to signing with the Bears during the previous offseason, he was a member of the Green Bay Packers.
Lewis will provide the Bears with another vital Williams blocker. Williams needs to feel secure in the pocket as a rookie. Lewis is able to assist with that. As a pass catcher, he can also occasionally be used to confuse the defense.
