Running back John Emery of LSU announced on Friday that he will be joining the Tigers for his sixth and final season of college football. Emery had previously withdrawn from the transfer portal.
Emery registered as a graduate transfer on the NCAA transfer portal in April. After suffering a season-ending knee injury in LSU’s November victory over Florida, he has been recuperating during this offseason. He gained 121 yards on 23 carries in 2023.
Emery began his LSU career in 2019–20 as a five-star recruit out of Destrehan High. Before academic eligibility issues derailed his third season and persisted into the first two games of his fourth, he ran for 566 yards on 114 carries in his first two seasons.
In his career, Emery has gained 1,062 yards and 14 touchdowns through rushes.

Along with Emery, LSU’s roster currently includes Josh Williams, a graduate senior, sophomore Kaleb Jackson, sophomore Trey Holly, and freshman Caden Durham as five scholarship running backs.
After Holly was detained in February in relation to a shooting in Union Parish that resulted in two injuries, he was placed on indefinite leave of absence. A grand jury dismissed a second-degree murder attempt charge against him in April, but they still brought one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality against him.
