Will Anderson Jr.’s first season lived up to the high expectations placed on him by his No. 3 overall draft choice; the defensive end for the Houston Texans was named to the Pro Bowl and won the 2023 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
Although most people could have been satisfied with his debut performance, Anderson is not resting on his laurels.
In an interview with NFL.com on Friday, Anderson joked that he cringes at some of his early play and said that, even only a few months after his rookie year, he already sees things on his tape that he can improve on.
Yes, I’m like, ‘Bro, what are you doing?’ as I head back. What were you thinking, and why were you acting in that way? “Bro, I’m like, I can’t watch this any longer,” he exclaimed. “But honestly, it’s just about working my pass rush, man, maintaining a half-man rush, working the edge, trying to get some extension at the top of my rush, and then precisely finishing on the quarterback.” These are the main areas I’ve been concentrating on and working on during the offseason.”
In order to reach his concrete objective of recording double-digit sacks in 2024, as well as his overarching objective of developing into a reliable defensive presence, Anderson has dedicated his offseason efforts to strengthening his body and technique in preparation for the upcoming campaign.
Myles Garrett, a defensive end for the Browns, was one of the seasoned professionals Anderson reached out to for assistance with this project. Anderson, who worked out with Garrett earlier this year, claimed that the defensive player of the year taught him how to maximize his power and some of the finer points of positional perfection.
