The ten most tragic Texas football transfer portal exits ever
Texas and head coach Steve Sarkisian lost 24 former Longhorns while also bringing in a sizable sum via the transfer portal most recently. Wide receiver Isaiah Neyor and cornerback Austin Jordan have been two of the Horns’ biggest offseason losses.
Both players would have been excellent No. 2s for Texas as the team heads into the SEC, even though neither was going to emerge as the standout performer at their respective positions.
Both safety JD Coffey and wide receiver Brenen Thompson were rated as four-star transfers in the 2023 portal after having reasonably successful careers with the Longhorns.
Despite having just 7 receptions for Oklahoma in 2023, Thompson still managed 241 yards and 2 touchdowns at an average of 34.4 yards per catch.
Coffey was an essential member of the San Diego State Aztecs’ defense last season, totaling 12 tackles.
Coffey and Thompson would have been valuable assets on either side of the ball, even though they haven’t set any records since leaving the Horns.
Neyor played two years at Wyoming before transferring to the Horns, where in 2023 he only had one reception for 14 yards. Jordan spent two years as a player for Texas, totaling 11 tackles and one interception for the Longhorns.
