The Yankees offer several encouraging injury updates on players who are recovering.
The New York Yankees are receiving a lot of positive news regarding some of their players who are recovering, and in the upcoming weeks, they may add some significant players to their roster. Before tonight’s game against the Seattle Mariners, Aaron Boone gave a press conference. During the conference, he provided some critical updates to significant players on the injured list. Meanwhile, the Yankees PR departments announced on social media where specific players will continue their rehab assignments. There is a lot of positive news regarding these prospective additions to the roster, including DJ LeMahieu and Jasson Dominguez.
Though the Yankees will gladly welcome any reinforcements that may be on the way, they have some tough decisions ahead of them over the next few weeks.
Tommy Kahnle and DJ LeMahieu Are Almost Back to the Yankees
DJ LeMahieu is expected to make his comeback on Tuesday of next week when they play the Angels in Los Angeles, according to Aaron Boone. Earlier this week, it was revealed that LeMahieu, rather than a rotating cast of Oswaldo Cabrera and Jon Berti, will be their starting third baseman upon his return. The Yankee captain speculates that he might see some action at first base in order to provide Anthony Rizzo with some downtime.
The Yankees are hoping that DJ LeMahieu, who struggled to start the season in 2023, shows more of his second half self after posting a 101 wRC+ and +3 OAA at third base last season. Though he’s far from a lock for this lineup going into his 35th season, his defensive prowess and keen eye could strengthen the Yankees’ already potent lineup.
Tommy Kahnle may be activated much sooner than anticipated as he is anticipated to rejoin the team tomorrow following a season-long absence due to multiple injuries. The seasoned right-hander wasn’t seen until June of 2023, but the Yankees were able to obtain a lot of use out of him when he was well. With a 2.66 ERA, the 34-year-old struck out 29.1% of batters he faced. In his five-game rehab assignment, he also gave up zero runs scored and struck out 11 batters.

Generally regarded as the Yankees’ best prospect, Jasson Dominguez will be moving to Somerset to continue his rehab assignment with the Double-A team. During his brief time in Single-A with the Tampa Tarpons, he was excellent, averaging 91.1 mph in exit velocity and walking more often than he struck out. Jorbit Vivas was promoted from Single-A to High-A, where he will play infield in the Hudson Valley alongside DJ LeMahieu, who was promoted from Somerset.
Although Jasson Dominguez’s promotion would undoubtedly come up in the event that the team needed an outfielder, these two are not anticipated to receive Major League reps upon their activation.
